Get ready for an epic rugby showdown as the Leicester Tigers aim to dethrone the reigning champions, Bath!
In a highly anticipated match-up, veteran fly-half James O'Connor will lead the Tigers' charge, making his first Gallagher PREM start for the club. This comes as a repeat of last season's thrilling Premiership final, where Bath emerged victorious.
Tigers boss Geoff Parling has selected a strong lineup, including 12 players from the team that narrowly lost to Bath in their previous encounter. O'Connor, who made a brief appearance off the bench last weekend, will partner scrum-half Tom Whiteley, as the Tigers seek their 122nd win in this historic fixture.
But here's where it gets interesting... O'Connor's last PREM Rugby start was a memorable one, helping the Sale Sharks defeat Gloucester in a high-scoring encounter back in 2019. Since then, he's featured in just four other starts, showcasing his versatility by playing for the Crusaders in Super Rugby and representing Australia in the Rugby Championship.
In a further boost for the Tigers, Parling has named a formidable pack, with Joe Heyes, Cam Henderson, and Olly Cracknell starting up front. The midfield combination of Joseph Woodward and Sol Kata adds further strength to the lineup.
"We're excited to be back at Mattioli Woods Welford Road," Parling said. "While Bath are in fine form, we're focused on our own game and continuous improvement. Tom and James bring invaluable experience to the halves, and it's great to welcome back Joe, Crackers, and Woody to the starting XV."
The Leicester Tigers XV: Freddie Steward, Adam Radwan, Sol Kata, Joseph Woodward, Ollie Hassell Collins, James O'Connor, Tom Whiteley, Nicky Smith, Jamie Blamire, Joe Heyes, Cameron Henderson, Ollie Chessum (C), Hanro Liebenberg, Tommy Reffell, Olly Cracknell.
Replacements: Charlie Clare, Ale Loman, Will Hurd, Harry Wells, Emeka Ilione, Ollie Allan, Billy Searle, Will Wand.
Will the Tigers' experience and home advantage be enough to overcome the champions? Or will Bath continue their dominant run?
