And leading the charge is Kayden Mingo, the top-ranked recruit in program history. Hailing from New York, Mingo is a 6'3" point guard with all the skills to run Rhoades' offense. Despite the challenges of being a freshman in a competitive league, Mingo's talent and leadership are expected to shine through.
"It's a blessing to have the trust of my coach and teammates. I'm ready to show what I can do and lead this team," Mingo said.
Joining Mingo are Mason Blackwood and Justin Houser, who are also expected to make an impact early in their Penn State careers. With the departure of key players like Ace Baldwin Jr. and D'Marco Dunn, Rhoades has brought in international talent to fill the gaps. Players like Melih Tunca from Turkey and Saša Ciani from Slovenia will play crucial roles this season.
"Playing with experienced players and learning from them has been a great experience for me. I'm excited to show what I've learned and contribute to the team," Tunca shared.
As the season approaches, developing the younger players will be a key focus. With many question marks surrounding this team, Rhoades and his staff are embracing the challenge. Despite low expectations from the national media, the newcomers see this as an opportunity to make a statement.
"We're not worried about what others think. We're here to win, and that's our sole focus," Blackwood emphasized.
